Signs and miracles: God is of the living

>>Confusion “Why God Never Call Me on my Cell Phone?” 1 Corinthians 14:33…

Unbeliever in gifts of the spirit asks:
—If tongues and prophecy continue, then can God at least call me on my cell phone?

trutherator answers:

—If he thought you would listen, and if you had the faith of anybody who actually understands that God is not dead, he is alive, and speaks to you when you listen, THEN you just might get a phone call from God on your cell phone one day.

……Elijah heard him not in the thunder and lightning (when he gets mad it’s probably too late anyway) but in the “still small voice”.

As a matter of fact, especially if you’re genuinely born again (and I have no reason to doubt that), he’s probably been trying to speak to you for a long time already. Maybe you’re taking credit for the thoughts GOD put into your head.

It’s amazing how some people who quote the verse on confusion at I Corinthians 14:33 show their own confusion in two different ways for the price of one.

First, jump down towards Paul’s LAST word on the subject at the end of the chapter in verse 39, paying attention to the object of the verb phrase FORBID NOT:
1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

To summarize the chapter in the real world, it generally says it is edifiying for yourself to speak in an unknown tongue –edifying–, but it’s not edifying if there is a visitor or unbeliever in your midst, therefore IF you DO speak in tongues (“Forbid NOT”), then someone should interpret. And oh, by the way, just exercising the gift of prophecy is better.

At another point, he also said “the spirit of the prophet is subject unto the prophet”. There are elders and pastors –and then, apostles like Paul– who are charged with maintaining order among the saints and catching false prophecies and cutting them off, and guiding the assembly.

But woe is to the modern-day Eli who tells young Samuel he’s hallucinating instead of encouraging him to take directions from God.

Joel 2:28 ¶And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Joel 2:31 and following make clear that verse 28 was referent to these entire days starting with the 1st century.

Mr. No gifts of the spirit:
…..Nevertheless, if God does call them on their cell phone or send them an e-mail on their computer, then just imagine the chaos. Everyone would worship their cell phone and computer as if it were a golden calf in the book of Exodus.

God used the apostles to lay hands and heal directly, and they used the fact to point to the Healer and to salvation.

Paul’s handkerchiefs were sent to people who were healed upon contact, and the Lord was glorified, not the handkerchiefs. Today’s moneychanger hustlers reflecting the ones that Jesus Christ drove from the temple at the point of a lashing, but they do not disprove healing by faith in Jesus Christ any more than the moneychangers in the temple disproved Jesus as Messiah.

It is obvious why God does not want to communicate through a cell phone. However, should it be even more obvious why God does not communicate to sinful man through schizophrenic voices through tongues or prophecy?

That’s funny, because as part of my pre-missionary days preparation to find a legal exemption from conscription, I read a book about schizophrenic cases. The author mentioned that a lot of psychologists/psychiatrists have diagnosed Paul as having at least schizoid tendencies.

So was Elijah hearing “schizophrenic voices” or the voice of God in that “still small voice”–like the word of God says? In the Upper Room, were they “schizophrenic voices” they were repeating or were they miraculous utterances of the Holy Spirit–like the word of God says?

quoting: Tongues and prophecy are considered to be miracles. However, Matthew 16:4 made it clear miracles ceased except our faith in Jesus in terms of the resurrection! …..

An amazing sight to behold, using Matthew 16:4 as saying “miracles ceased”!! Wow! Jesus said that for HIS OWN generation, you know this one:

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Now that was during the same time as the generation in which “no sign shall be given it”. Obviously when he said a “wicked and adulterous generation” he wasn’t talking about believers either!

In fact, he was saying that if you don’t believe in his power, that won’t be given any signs. Hello? You wouldn’t believe even if one were raised from the dead! Remember that one? And yet Jesus DID raise Lazarus from the dead!
